Collaborative Picture Book Makers As Shapeshifters

In 2024, Rose presented a research poster on community picture book making at the Illustration Research Symposium. The conference’s theme was on heritage, and the poster looked at how makers of collaborative picture books create new heritage, rather than just illustrate existing stories.

In 2025, Rose was asked to reimagine the poster into an article for the Illustration Research community blog. She worked with Ksenia Kopalova to create a choose-your-own-adventure style guide to leading community picture book projects. Ksenia created doodled gifs to illustrate all the different forms which you can transform into during a picture book making process.

Here is a link to the blog post.

Let us know what you reckon. Have you ever shifted into any of these forms?
Did you manage to shift back again?
